A Rolex Cellini, ref: 3878. 1967. Solid 18k Yellow Gold.
The Cellini range was launched in the 60’s, as a dedicated collection of dress watches, and named after the renowned Italian Renaissance goldsmith, Benvenuto Cellini.
This is a 22.5mm×24.5mm watch in solid 18k yellow gold. A very early piece from the range, without a ‘Cellini’ on the dial, which Rolex printed on later pieces. The silver starburst dial features delicate crosshairs.
The head of the watch, the bracelet, and the clasp are adorned with an incredible bark finish. This is a weighty little piece at over 56g.
Condition:-
There is no doubt that this piece is in stunning condition. In fact, I would go almost so far as to say, like NOS. The case and bracelet show no real sign of use, retaining their incredible factory shape and finish throughout. Furthermore, this bark effect cannot be refinished. A testament to how well it has been looked after.
The coronet and serial number are still perfectly clear on the factory brushed caseback. The original dial and handset are extremely clean, and the plexiglass is perfect.
The silky bracelet and clasp remain tight, with the Rolex coronet very prominent. Again, unpolished, with the hallmarks fully visible, with the clasp year as ‘4. 66’.
Depending on wrist size and the required fit, this bracelet may have to be tailored by my goldsmith, in order to be perfect.
Movement:-
There is no service history with this watch. However, the manual wind cal. 1600 movement is running nicely.
I guarantee the authenticity and the working order of this piece at the time of sale, and will offer a 3 month extended warranty. Please don’t expect this piece to be waterproof.
