A Rolex Oyster Perpetual, ref: 1003. Produced 2nd quarter 1963.

This is a great 34mm, oyster cased ref. from 1963, fitted with a later 78350 bracelet. A classic and purposeful design with an engine turned bezel. This particular piece has a radial brushed silver ‘T SWISS T’ dial, with silver markers and baton hands, adorned with tritium lume. An interesting fact, is that it was this ref. which was worn on the first solo circumnavigation of the globe by yacht in 1967, by Francis Chichester .
Condition:-
This particular piece is in very honest condition and came from the first and original owner. The case, although clearly showing signs of use over the years, remains very serviceable, with the lugs retaining their shape, and the reference number & serial still visible.
The dial is extremely clean, especially given its age. Many of these go quite speckled. The original tritium lume is fully intact on both the dial and the handset, having aged to a deep cream hue. The plexiglass is brand new and has been fitted during service, although the original is included in the sale.
The crown is the Rolex original twinlock item and the screw-in caseback is also original Rolex.
The bracelet is of the correct design, but is a newer item, which would have been replaced by Rolex during a service around 20 years ago. It remains tight and in good condition with the Rolex clasp shutting reassuringly. Although the watch head was not born with this bracelet, it is part of its journey, and they will therefore remain together for sale.
Movement:-
The Rolex Cal.1560 has just received a full overhaul (December 2025) from my specialist Rolex trained watchmaker and is running beautifully. There is no previous service history paperwork with this watch, but there is plenty of evidence of work done in the past, in the form of service markings inside the caseback.
I guarantee the authenticity and the working order of this piece at the time of sale, an will offer a 1 year extended warranty. Although this is a sports watch, please don’t expect it to be waterproof.
*The watch comes with its original Rolex box, although there is no internal cushion.
