Omega Seamaster Calendar Ref: 2849-4 SC with automatic Cal. 503 movement. Produced in 1958.
This is a seldom seen stainless steel Seamaster variant, with gilt dial and a gold framed date window. The dial equipped with matching yellow gold, lumed dauphine hands, lumed arrowhead markers and Arabic numerals.
This watch pre-dates the Omega Hippocampus, also introduced in 1958, and instead just has a ‘Seamaster’ engraving on its snap-on caseback.
The high quality automatic Omega Cal. 503 is the engine in this piece, and is known for being robust, reliable and highly efficient. It was a cutting edge movement when introduced in the 50’s and is a firm favourite amongst collectors.
Condition:-
This piece is in lovely condition and all original. The case is in very nice shape, with the lugs remaining thick and displaying their original, wide bevels. I suspect this example has never been re-finished. The gilt dial has aged in a beautiful way with an even patina. The yellow gold gold handset, markers and date window have a lovely warmth to them, having oxidised with age and they all remain extremely pleasing to the eye. The radium lume on the plots and handset has aged to a deep brown colour and remains perfectly intact. The plexiglass is original, with its etched Omega logo.
Movement:-
There is no service history with this watch, although there is evidence of work done in the past, in the form of service markings inside the caseback. The Cal.503 movement however, is keeping good vintage time and the crown is functioning correctly.
I guarantee the authenticity and the working order of this piece at the time of sale, but due to its age, offer no extended warranty. And although this is a Seamaster, please don’t expect this watch to be waterproof.
*This piece will be supplied on a beautiful ‘The Strap Tailor’ Slimline Saffiano, hand-made strap & buckle of your choice.
